Modesty Strikes Again

Being modest to a fault, I’ve failed to inform my blog readers of my recent photographic endeavor…

I submitted 3 works to the High Falls Gallery and 2 of them were accepted after being judged.  I’m pretty happy with how they came out.  Framing/printing wasn’t the cheapest thing in the world, but I have yet to build my own framing/matting workshop…so there.

Beyond that, tooth is still sensitive - I’m probably going to go see my dentist again and I don’t plan on paying them for filling my tooth…as they didn’t do anything (I’m one to pay for services when they actually function as intended…I’m weird like that)

I’m hoping to get out more often w/my camera.  I need to try to just bring it with me wherever I go - problem is I have a lot of camera gear now…and my shoulders aren’t made of steel…yet!

The Saga Continues

So the teeth of wisdom are out and my left cheek doesn’t feel like a semi hit it anymore.  Everything is going swimmingly…except the tooth that started it all.

I headed in for a cleaning this morning.  These appointments I don’t mind.  I was a bit concerned about my gums where the teeth were as they are still a bit tender.  I informed the hygienist that my gums were a bit sensitive still and a back molar was sensitive to hot/cold (I have to use warm water to rinse my mouth out after brushing…sigh).  So all went well until she started brushing.  Right away she headed for the molar and I cringed a bit, then she made contact and the nerve in my tooth lit up like a truckload of fireworks (can we NOT have nerves there please? c’mon!).  The unrelenting throbbing continued until about 30min ago…and now for some reason it is back making it very hard to concentrate at work.  Good news is I’m headed back to the dentists in five hours to get it fixed.  Maybe I’ll request a gold cap..and a diamond studded ‘grill’

In the meantime, I will file ridiculously sensitive nerves in teeth as a “bug” and hope it is fixed when someone releases Humans v2.0

That Wasn’t so Bad

Well yesterday was the big “wisdom tooth” extraction day.  I was not excited at all..no really, I wasn’t.  I got in to the chair and I was shaking a good deal (not afraid to admit as I generally don’t like getting my teeth “worked” on).  The surgeon came in and was very nice - told me the whole thing takes about 10min…I gave him a “Really?!?” and he confirmed.  He shot my entire mouth up with good ol’ Novocaine and I proceeded to have almost my entire mouth go numb - and even a bit of my left nostril (kinda weird).

Once I was good and numb, he mumbled a “here we go” and walked over with what looked like a shoe-horn for teeth.  The top left and right Wisdom Teeth were out in about 30 seconds (no lie).  The bottom left one needed more work so he got a nice sized drill and went to town.  I felt a little twinge of pain and my human instincts told me to move a bit and give out an incoherent “ouch”.  He told me moving was not a good idea and shot me up with more Novocaine (I love the stuff!).  The third tooth came out in pieces and he was in fact finished in about 10 minutes.  “It’s like a pit crew” I said a bit muffled.

After the surgery we headed to Wegman’s for antibiotic and pain killers - yum!  My mom was almost freaked out by how energetic I was - that my friends, is adrenaline.  I crashed about 2 hours later and lost all energy.

All in all, there is more pain than I thought there would be.  I underestimated how impacted the lower-left was.  I’m pretty swollen and it looks like I entered a “How many cotton balls can you fit in your mouth” contest.  I’m glad I waited to get them out for so long, as they were able to come out easier.  I’m just glad it’s over with :D

PS:  We adopted a new cat from Lollypop - Molly.  She’s a 1yr 2mo old Black/Brown cat and she’s a sweetheart.  She’s adjusting well!

Three. Zero. Zero.

300We hit up Tinseltown last night for a 7:10pm showing of 300.  The theater was almost empty which completely rocked.  We got there early to beat the non-existent crowd and brought our DS’s to pass time.

The movie itself lived up to my expectations.  It did not exceed them as my expectations were abnormally high for a movie.  I had little expectations for the last adaptation of a Frank Miller graphic novel, Sin City and that completely floored me.

I thought 300 was very well done - the parts where Leonidas would stand up, yell, or do anything, really - were awesome.  Cinematics were fantastic and the mood created was really great.  The film reminded me of Gladiator, but with a ton more action - and one less hour of movie.

Basically, if you enjoy action movies even a little, see this movie…even if you hate movies and violence, see this movie.

…Now ;)

The Irony of Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are pretty dumb - I’ll get that irony right out there in the open.  Evolution really didn’t take very good notes as humans moved from caves to cubicles.  When a human matures to the rip old age of 16 (16-19, etc), changes happn - one of which is the growth of wisdom teeth - the dumbest teeth in the human mouth.  To add to this stupidity seem to be two camps - those who encourage the removal right away and those that seem to want to remove them if there is a problem (leave em otherwise).  Well, I was exposed to the “eh, leave em if they don’t hurt” camp - lucky me.

Why the unbridled hate for wisdom teeth?  Well, I need to have at least one removed in order to fix a tooth I chipped.  The details of the “chipping” are embarassing as I feel they don’t speak highly of the quality of my teeth…at least this particular molar.  We headed to the Highland Diner for some breakfast before a drive to Buffalo.  I ordered an omelet with home fries.  The first bite I took contained some very well done bits of potato - I bit down and immediately got an uneasy feeling originating from the back of my mouth…

So I arrived at the dentist and he was confident that an impacted wisdom tooth would pose a problem when it came to fixing the chip - hooray! I cried.  The question now is whether to get all three out (I had one removed a few years ago) or to just have to one taken out?  The other two (on top) aren’t posing a problem - they are growing in fine.
