The Weekend That Was

I really really enjoyed this weekend. I was happy to see Friday evening arrive. I had plans to hang out with my cousin’s boyfriend (now fiancee), but he had to head to the southern tier to pick up the engagement ring he ordered her. He talked to me about how hard it would be to wait once he got the ring. It didn’t help him much to hear that I only waited about 3 days before asking. C had a food party for a couple hours upstairs to I headed up to our room and watched my new favorite show: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (link to follow). It’s essentially Anime with mechs. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it as much as I have and I’m currently in the throws of a mild addiction for this show. As I have them all on DVD, I watched 3 episodes (@ 22min each) and proceeded to unwind from the week. Friday finished up with a bunch of us hanging out after the food party and having a great time catching up.

Saturday commenced with a trip to the black hole of space and time: Wegmans. C needed to pick up a cake for a friend’s bridal shower so we got that taken care of early which I enjoy. C then headed out to her friend’s shower and I cleaned a bit, did some laundry and uploade more 365 pictures to flickr. Oh, and watched more Anime. Nothing really profound, but I needed a weekend to unwind.

Saturday evening was spent at Tasteology in Pittsford and then the Pittsford Pub for a drink for a friend’s birthday. Both were enjoyable. Tasteology had good food and the private room we were in was very nice. There was also a band playing jazz and the female vocalist had a voice that went very well with the music. After the food, we headed to Pittsford Pub for a drink and an order of sweet potato fries thanks in part to my horrific will power.

Sunday was also enjoyable minus a very bad headache. Began the morning with even MORE Anime (ya rly), the usual sushi lunch (need to consider only getting 3 rolls for the both of us) and errands. Folded laundry, ate some homemade macaroni and cheese, watched even more Anime then headed to bed.

I need to try to get to bed earlier during the week and get up earlier as I will want to start running outside pre-work. I’m also considering riding my bike to work in the summer months (12mi..) as I really don’t enjoy driving a car thanks to other drivers. I’ve gotten better at diffusing the stress related to driving/commuting, but I almost have a disdain for using gasoline. The price is absurd and I want to make an attempt at using less all while doing something good for my body.

Weekend’ing For Teh Fun

Apparently there are a couple rules to why Easter is when it is. I don’t remember them vertabim, but we apparently won’t see an Easter this early in awhile. I’m fine aither way as I’m not religious, but it is a good excuse to get together with family.

Weekend was an enjoyable one. We didn’t do a ton of running around as Saturday was “recover from Game Night III” day. We got to bed late, C even later than I due to hiccups. Getting to bed late doesn’t mean I get up late - I tend to get up early no matter when I go to bed. It doesn’t bother me as of lately I haven’t really been keen on getting a ton of sleep - I’d rather get stuff done or something.

Headed to my folks house Saturday for an enjoyable visit and fantastic food (Surf ‘n Turf FTW). Gave my mom and early Birthday present - an 8×10 B&W engagement photo of Candace and I that was mounted on 2″ of foamcore so it could stand on it’s own. It looked cool on mpix.com so we snagged one.

Sunday consisted largely of hanging out with my nephew Ren (officially my nephew-in-law on 6/7/08)…

…I unfortunately awoke with a decent headache which caused me to move around in a fog most of the day…

…He’s particularly fond of me which is surprising, awesome, and a bit tiring at time, heh. Really, it is very cool to have a kid be such a fan. We played with his trains, then played battle trains. We moved into the sun room, turned on the fan (he wanted it on…bit chilly) and built lego weapons. I tried to build an Axe, but fell short of the goal, so Ren built me a one lol. Before dinner, we headed outside to play basketball - but Ren mainly looked for sticks/swords to play with. C joined us outside and we took a quick walk that ended due mainly in part to the @#%^ #%@!* March weather.

Side note, I sunk more baskets yesterday than I have have in my entire life O_o.

I was able to sneak off for a bit and watch some anime that I’ve been mildly obsessed with, so that was nice. Really though, it was very cool to have Ren want to be around me all day. At one point his parents left to run an errand and when asked whether he wanted to come with them or stay with Uncle Dan, he told them he’d see them tomorrow, haha.

A good weekend that had to end - like all of them. It’s a new week now and it is shaping up to be a busy one. Looking to attend my first Flickr Rochester Meetup in quite awhile.

Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun

Currently can’t stop listening to this track. Props to last.fm for playing it the other day.

Happy Birthday!!!!!11

Happy Birthday Iraq “War”! Wow, 5 years old. Off to kindergarten soon! We are all pulling for you as you have trouble learning lessons, getting to the point, and completing anything in an organized fashion.

5 years old. Ya know, they say things get better with age and by golly that really is not the case here. Give it time though. Maybe by the time you are 20 or 30, you will have sprouted into a respectable, peaceful “War” that keeps to itself. But that would really go against everything you stand for, wouldn’t it?

Your mommy Cheney and daddy Dubbya must be so proud of you. And I bet you have some beaming grandparents over at Halliburton. You certainly have made quite a name for yourself at only 5 years old. Most are learning the basics of sharing, shapes, math and the like. But you’ve managed to create a black hole of sorts - and endless well of violence, poorly spent money and needless civilian and military deaths! Wow - just wow. Really impressive. I can tell you are aspiring to go “nuclear” as they say. Ooh, I hope that didn’t sound bad - It’s a good thing right? Isn’t that what all the kids are saying with their text’ed messages on their fancy I-Funs?

Ah memories. I remember when your mom and dad told the world the wanted to have you as their “War”. It’s funny - they had a lot of support from their 2nd cousins in the House and Senate, but it seems like they don’t want to have a thing to do with the support they gave your mom and dad. Not a lot of people understand, really. Why your mother and father have so much love and support for you - even sending in more people to help you along - people just don’t get it. Such is life. As I said, hopefully one day you’ll grow into a peaceful, non-existant “War”…

Just know that this was about as sarcastic as I can be at 8am with no coffee in me. I 110% do not support the supposed “War” in iRock. I feel betrayed as a US citizen. I feel lied to and I feel used. Now we are in a hole we dug ourselves and Dubbya bought the shovels.

Thanks Mr. President - You’ve helped me dislike another human being on an entirely new level that I did not think was possible.

Also, I put War in quotes as I personally don’t call it a war anymore. Wars end, and by the look at my half-empty glass, I unfortunately don’t see this ending. I still hope it will, however.

Ear Candy II

Hear this: My ear canals/brain have a mad crush on last.fm.

Since I started last.fm’ing, I’ve had the pleasure of discovering a handful of new artists that I may not have heard of otherwise. As the old adage “sharing is caring” goes…

Way Out West

It is hard to say what type of techno they are as I’m not as well versed on electronica types terms as Jim is. If I had to guess, I’d say they are trance’ish. They appeared when I started listening to BT’s similar artists. Currently my favorite track by them:

Way Out West - Killa

Oceanlab

Haven’t heard much from Oceanlab but I’ve heard some remixes of the following song (and the song itself) and I like it so far:

Oceanlab - Satellite

Chicane

I really like Chicane’s music. I’d say it is a bit more chillout than anything. Hard to say as I’ve only listened to a few of his tracks. It’s funny, I can almost guarentee I’ve heard his stuff before on one of the many MoS Chillout CDs I have.

Chicane - No Ordinary Morning
