Who’s Got Two Thumbs…

…and needed a three day weekend? This guy. After the craziness from work, this weekend has proven to be nothing short of fantastic. But first..

Happy Memorial Day! To our selfless veterans - past, present and future. Thank you for all you have done. Thank you seems to do little to convey my respect, appreciation for you. I am honored to be in your company as a fellow American.

Onto wedding stuff, we are now 12 days away from the big show. We squared away the seating arrangements (98% done) Saturday and I cleaned vases for our centerpieces. Beyond that, we’ve been cleaning, organizing, etc. Nothing too special has gone on this weekend, but it’s still been great.

More to type, but need to get cooking on bbq-related food items.

12 days!

That ‘Woosh’ You Heard…

…was the weekend flying by. All in all, a great weekend, albeit too short (reduntant to say as they are all too short). Saturday started with a trip to the Public Market. Good times. Had a large breakfast at Cherry’s, snagged some veggies for dirt cheap and then headed back home so I could head into work for a few.

Attended a friends’ wedding and had a really great time (Congrats again Brett and Stacey!). Got home in time to watch the SNL season finale and as per usual fell asleep before it was over (DVR FTW). Drifted off to sleep where I had a kick ass dream that was a mix between Terminator, Jurassic Park and another flick involving some sort of “survior colony” - 28 Days Later and/or I am Legend. I awoke from this kick ass dream to Molly (cat) being a total *explitive* this morning and I awoke a bit before I should have.

Wegmans ensued shortly after more harassment from Molly and after that it was time to disassemble the bedroom. C came down with a sizable headache so I got a few things squared away in the bedroom before heading to my folks house. Just as I got into my car…it starts raining. Rain + moving nice furniture = not cool. Luckily the rain didn’t do any damage and my Dad’s amazing packing/tarp’ing abilities proved invaluable.

So when all the moving was said and done, we love the new bedroom furniture. It is very nice to have a set as opposed to a mix of random furniture in our bedroom. And Craigslist is my new favorite place to find stuff (before, I would browse, but this was a genuinely fantastic experience)

And now to pass ouffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

Fried

Had a post about how busy work is and scrapped it. Not complaining, I just wish I was better equipped to handle long hours.

In other news, I’d like to give kudos to the Chevy Cobalt that kept up with me on the ride into work. Twas fun.

And I Missed It

Due to the whole “throwing out my back” and “overtime” thing (quotes rock), I’m going to miss Ride Your Bike to Work Week.

All is not lost, however. I’m very motivated to ride my bike once I scrounge up a bit of free time. I actually didn’t throw my back out either - I twisted my pelvis (yea, I do that) and it basically made me walk crooked for a bit and it gave me some pretty substantial back pain (sitting/standing/walking/etc all pretty much sucked). Feeling much better now, so once we get time, we plan on hitting the road again with our bikes.

Weekend was good; packed with events, but good. We snagged a bedroom set! It’s a very nice set with a wide dresser, tall dresser, bed and nightstand. All the stuff looked to be in great condition. It’s a dark cherry’ish wood (all solid wood). It’s about 2yrs old and we are getting it for 1/2 the original price. Just gotta pick it up at some point…

Mother’s Day was nice - spent time with my mom and dad, Yuki and C’s mom. The floral department at Pittsford Wegmans closely resembled the floor of the NY Stock Exchange. C picked out flowers to have some arrange rather than picking out pre-made bouquets - worked out much better.

I have hopes this week will be less crazy than last week, but I’m going to mentally prepare for another crazy week just to be safe.

More MPGs Plz

Call me crazy, but 34 miles per gallon is not impressive. My ten year old car gets 30 mpg. Let me repeat that with my trusty Caps-lock button: MY TEN YEAR OLD CAR GETS 30 MPG. Got it? Moving on, then…

I see ads almost constantly of how “fuel efficient” cars are. Nissan feels like it deserves all the credit in the world judging by their ad campaign. Well, ya don’t. No one does. We need to move beyond the fact that 35 mpg is some magical number, some amazing benchmark. Seriously, the Chevy Aveo, which is roughly the size of my fist gets 34 mpg (these are all highway, btw). 34?!? For serious, get your crack team of mediocre design engineers on task and bring that lovable huggable Aveo (which I actually enjoyed renting ~2yrs ago) up to 35mpg - you can do it!

Gas prices won’t go down. They will only go up and the people that can control the prices don’t seem to care that much because their wallets are nice and fat and they can afford to fill up their less-than-stellar-mpg cars. This, like our current government is why having people in control that focus on their own gains is a bad, bad idea.

You are now free to move about your weekend.
