Happy Birthday!!!!!11

Happy Birthday Iraq “War”! Wow, 5 years old. Off to kindergarten soon! We are all pulling for you as you have trouble learning lessons, getting to the point, and completing anything in an organized fashion.

5 years old. Ya know, they say things get better with age and by golly that really is not the case here. Give it time though. Maybe by the time you are 20 or 30, you will have sprouted into a respectable, peaceful “War” that keeps to itself. But that would really go against everything you stand for, wouldn’t it?

Your mommy Cheney and daddy Dubbya must be so proud of you. And I bet you have some beaming grandparents over at Halliburton. You certainly have made quite a name for yourself at only 5 years old. Most are learning the basics of sharing, shapes, math and the like. But you’ve managed to create a black hole of sorts - and endless well of violence, poorly spent money and needless civilian and military deaths! Wow - just wow. Really impressive. I can tell you are aspiring to go “nuclear” as they say. Ooh, I hope that didn’t sound bad - It’s a good thing right? Isn’t that what all the kids are saying with their text’ed messages on their fancy I-Funs?

Ah memories. I remember when your mom and dad told the world the wanted to have you as their “War”. It’s funny - they had a lot of support from their 2nd cousins in the House and Senate, but it seems like they don’t want to have a thing to do with the support they gave your mom and dad. Not a lot of people understand, really. Why your mother and father have so much love and support for you - even sending in more people to help you along - people just don’t get it. Such is life. As I said, hopefully one day you’ll grow into a peaceful, non-existant “War”…

Just know that this was about as sarcastic as I can be at 8am with no coffee in me. I 110% do not support the supposed “War” in iRock. I feel betrayed as a US citizen. I feel lied to and I feel used. Now we are in a hole we dug ourselves and Dubbya bought the shovels.

Thanks Mr. President - You’ve helped me dislike another human being on an entirely new level that I did not think was possible.

Also, I put War in quotes as I personally don’t call it a war anymore. Wars end, and by the look at my half-empty glass, I unfortunately don’t see this ending. I still hope it will, however.

Mic Clapper!

I’m not much into award shows as I find it all pretty subjective.  I do like that movies I liked get awards as I feel a slight (ok, very slight…) connection to the film (in the form of an $8 movie ticket).

One thing I notice with all awards shows, however, is the ‘mic clapper’.  Basically, when there is a standing ovation, or a long period of applause, there is always one clap that stands out above the mass clapping.  That one person seems to be clapping about two inches from their mic.  I’m convinced it is the award ladies - the women that just stand there - hand out awards, escort folks.  Not sure that their formal name is.

That is all…Zzzzzzz

An Open Letter To Spring

Dear Spring,

I’ll get right to the point.   I miss you dearly.  Winter is being its old self.  We tried talking about it but it didn’t go well and it sent over February to do its talking.  So, with February in the picture, things have taken a turn for the worse.  I know we may not agree on everything sometimes, like how you insist on keeping Summer away from us until July at times.  And that rain - seriously, you don’t have to brag about how much you can make it rain by showing us.  And don’t get me started on March.  Sorry, that was rude.  Just know that it isn’t only I who misses you, there are many of us here that would love you see you again soon.  Perhaps you can talk February down from its ego trip?

Hope to see you soon,

Dan

Corporate HQ to Replace Midtown

So it has been announced that PAETEC’s corporate headquarters will be moving in where Midtown Plaza is.  Firstly, I am both happy and saddened by this.  I’m happy that the area will be put to good use, but I am saddened to see yet another corporation head downtown.  Yes, the new building will bring jobs, something this area needs (but what type of jobs?).  I suppose I was looking forward to having a new…”something” to go to.  Not sure what that something is, but I do know that as of 6:00PM on any given weekday, downtown is closed.  I was excited by the idea of having some sort of entertainment facility go into that area.  Unless there is to be some carnival rides in the lobby of PAETEC’s new building, it’s anything but entertaining from my perspective.

Third Friday

As the title indicates, I feel like I’m on my third Friday.  Having put in a few hours of overtime this week, I think I’m heading out an hour early.  I haven’t posted in awhile, so I figured I’d babble for a few minutes then call it a post.

Rented…

I was contemplating buying a new telephoto zoom lens, but instead opted to rent the much sought after Canon 70-200 2.8 IS (”Cheap” @ only $1700) for a few weeks.  One week in May and two in June prior to the wedding I’m shooting.  I don’t have a telephoto zoom and I kinda want one - but I don’t feel I need one.  Nor do I really “need” any lens…right?

New Every Two…

On 4/20/07 - I found I was up for another magical “New Every Two” from that lovable, huggable Verizon.  I was shocked to find yet again that there weren’t any phones that really caught my eye - how bizarre.  Verizon almost always has the best…oh wait, not they don’t.  I’m between two models right now, but at $100 after NE2, it seems pointless.

Ranting a Bit…

  • If you find driving difficult from old age (it’s okay..it happens!) please, do NOT buy a Buick Lucerne, or a Cadillac Boat, or a Lincoln Cruise ship - they will NOT be easy to drive - basic physics!  Buy a *gasp* smaller car that is easier to manage.  If you don’t I will continue to roll my eyes at you.
  • Running from one end of the office is pointless - unless said office is on fire, then run your little hearts out.  I don’t understand why people randomly run around an office that is so small it doesn’t really make running feasible
  • I know you love working on your awesome car in the parking lot, but if you got a house, you’d have a garage - how nifty!  I know, the entire lot wouldn’t be able to bask in your ego, but that’s a price we are willing to pay
  • …think that’s it

Happy Friday everyone…
